Nigel Paterson

Nigel Paterson is an energy research scientist, who worked for British Coal, at the Coal Research Establishment (near Tewkesbury) and now at Imperial College London He has maintained an interest in the historic buildings of the area, since moving to Stroud in 1974. He has restored several houses in Stroud and Chalford and has helped many owners understand the development of their buildings. He was one of the founder Directors of the Stroud Preservation Trust and a founder member of the Gloucestershire Buildings Recording Group, and is currently Chairman of both groups. He has also recently published a book entitled ‘The Vernacular Architecture and Buildings of Stroud and Chalford’.

Anne Mackintosh

Anne was a founder trustee of Stroud Preservation Trust following the battle to save the buildings in Stroud’s lower High Street. She was joint project manager for the repair of 32-34 High Street and 55 High Street & Withey’s Yard. She was then project manager for the repair of the Brunel Goods Shed, the Cainscross Toll House, and the seven houses at Arundel Mill.
Anne was also a founder member of Stroud Valleys Project and involved in CPC, continuing to run the Stroud Shop Windows Project. She also helped to organise the very successful Brunel 200 Celebrations during 2006.

Tim Harrison

Tim Harrison was involved in the direct action to save the buildings in Stroud’s lower High Street, and has worked on the restoration of many listed buildings in the Stroud area in his capacity as a joiner. He has also successfully restored a listed commercial building, Piccadilly Mill, which he now runs as a group of workshops, studios and offices. He became a trustee in 2004 with the specific intention of bringing the Brunel Goods Shed back into community use.

Camilla Hale

A Trustee with SPT since 2005, Camilla brings a wealth of experience in fundraising and event management. She has lived in Stroud since 1985 and has always been involved in community arts and community planning. She chaired Stroud Valleys Project for some years, and currently works across Gloucestershire as a trainer for voluntary organisations and as a mentor for arts workers.

Richard Wood

Richard is a recent recruit to the trust having joined the board of management in 2006. He lives in Nailsworth and works as a chartered valuation surveyor, in the Stroud Valleys and Cotswolds. He holds a master’s degree in architectural conservation awarded by the University of Bristol.

Emma Stuart

Emma Stuart has worked in the heritage and museum sector for over ten years and has achieved Masters Degrees in Landscape Heritage and Society (Liverpool) and in Museum Studies (Leicester.) Emma was editor of a community publication funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Home Front Recall grant entitled, ‘What Did you do in the War Deva?’ profiling Chester during the Second World War (2005.) In 2006, she relocated to Stroud District to work for the Stroud Preservation Trust helping to secure a future for the Brunel Goods Shed. After leaving the role 4 years ago, she remained a Trustee on the board and is currently Co-Chair.

Friends of the Trust

The aim of The Friends of The Stroud Preservation Trust is to support the work of the Trust in rescuing and restoring historic buildings in and around Stroud, at the same time creating new uses for them for the community of Stroud.

If you are interested in the heritage of Stroud and would like to assist the Trust in its efforts, why not join the Friends? You will receive regular newsletters about the work of the Trust, and will be invited to occasional special events, but most importantly, you will be supporting the conservation work of the Trust in Stroud.
